Dear Sirs,

RE: WRC CYPRUS RALLY 2003 / CYPRUS NATIONAL MOTORSPORT PROBLEMS

Further to the letter sent to you on 3.3.2003, in which you were fully informed about the happenings in the Cyprus national motorsport, we would like to denounce the newest C.A.A. hostile behaviour towards the Cyprus Motorsport’ athletes -members of the Cyprus Motorsport Federation- to deny them the participation in the forthcoming  Cyprus Rally 2003 taking place in June.

Over the past 30 years, the Cyprus Automobile Association (C.A.A.) exercised the control of Motorsport in Cyprus in the most unacceptable and unusual ways, thus succeeding in bringing the national state of the sport at the lowest ever levels.

The Cypriot participants refuse to accept any longer their exploitation by a team of people who, due to personal benefits and in the name of F.I.A., have violated all the Laws and Regulations of the Cyprus Sport Organisation (C.S.O.)- the highest Sporting Authority in Cyprus- and consequently those of the Republic of Cyprus, against the Cyprus Motorsport Federation- a Body formed by the five regional automobile Clubs, duly approved by the C.S.O., with more than 400 members- which is the only legally recognised and authorised Member-Entity of the Cyprus Sport Organisation.

The C.A.A. has misled a lot of people including the Cyprus Government as well as the F.I.A. in keeping from them the seriousness of all happenings, especially during the last three years, at the expense of the Cyprus motorsport and hiding behind the big event- the ‘Cyprus Rally’. The C.A.A. privatised the event, prohibiting members of the Cyprus Motorsport Federation and FIA Competition Driver Licence holders, to participate in our national contest, presenting the excuse that it is against the F.I.A. rules, which even themselves, do not follow.

The Cyprus Rally was built not only by the C.A.A. but by the Cyprus Regional Clubs/Associations also, which supported in full the C.A.A., all these years, as well as the Government of Cyprus  and thus succeeded to the recognition as an international event, projecting Cyprus to the World and thus bringing wealth and fame to Cyprus.

Indeed, for all of us it was a dream that became a reality. At the time, however, it became a private business by C.A.A., at our expense, we all have decided to take measures for cancellation of the event in June 2003.

We do not fight the ‘Cyprus Rally’, which we all love so much, but the ‘Cyprus Rally’ that the C.A.A. has created.

We are fully aware of the consequences of our actions against the Cyprus Rally, including the fact that our country will be affected badly, but all this can be avoided if all the legal rights of our members are established.

The Cyprus Rally, which is organized by the C.A.A., is not the rally that we all expected.  It is the obligation of all of us, including the Cyprus Government and the Cyprus Sport Organisation, to take such dynamic measures in resolving this problem and cession all legal rights to the Club-Members of the Cyprus Motorsport Federation and their athletes and to clearly indicate the limitations of the C.A.A. giving an end to their hostile behaviour towards us.

Concluding, we would like to inform you of our decisiveness to forbid the C.A.A. to continue acting arbitrarily and we are expecting from you, to understand our position by taking such immediate steps which would prevent the cancellation of the ‘Cyprus Rally’.

Awaiting your prompt response,
